The War and Treaty Kessler Theater Show in Oak Cliff

The War and Treaty and the Kessler Theater make a perfect match on Sunday, November 1, when the soul-stirring husband-and-wife duo brings its revival-style show to Oak Cliff. Michael Trotter Jr. and Tanya Trotter blend gospel, soul, country and Americana into one huge sound. As a result, their concerts often feel more like a celebration than a typical gig.

Michael first learned to play piano while serving in the U.S. Army in Iraq, and he began writing songs there. Later, he met Tanya, and the two formed the duo that would win over Nashville. Since then, they have released albums such as Healing Tide, Lover’s Game and Plus One. In addition, they earned a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist in 2024. They also became the first Black duo nominated for Duo of the Year at the CMA Awards.

About the Kessler Theater

The Kessler Theater first opened in Oak Cliff in the early 1940s, and singing cowboy Gene Autry was once among its owners. After decades of decline, the Art Deco building was restored and reopened as a live music venue in 2010. Since then, it has become one of the most respected listening rooms in North Texas. In addition, its intimate layout means nearly every seat feels close to the stage.
