Austin: Billy Strings at Moody Center
Billy Strings brings his fall 2026 tour to Moody Center in Austin on Saturday, Dec. 12, 2026, at 7:30 PM, with tickets starting at $95. The bluegrass guitar virtuoso closes out his year with three Texas shows in four nights, part of a run that began with a three-night stand in Denver in September.
Born William Apostol and raised in Michigan, Billy Strings learned bluegrass from his stepfather and grew up flatpicking Doc Watson tunes before blending them with the rock and jam-band influences of his teens. He has won Grammy Awards for Best Bluegrass Album for “Home” (2021) and “Me/And/Dad” (2024), the latter a set of traditional songs recorded with his stepfather, Terry Barber. His 2024 album “Highway Prayers” stretched his sound even further.
Austin was added after the original announcement and now closes the Texas run. Billy Strings has a long relationship with the city, including high-profile summer shows, and Moody Center, which opened on the University of Texas campus in 2022, gives him an arena-sized room for a Saturday night. No two Billy Strings shows are the same. He changes his setlist every night, stretches songs like “Dust in a Baggie,” “Away From the Mire” and “Turmoil & Tinfoil” into long improvisations, and has earned a devoted, traveling fan base often compared to the Grateful Dead’s. Earlier that week, he plays Billy Strings at Smart Financial Centre in Sugar Land on Dec. 9 and Billy Strings at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth on Dec. 11.
Doors typically open about an hour before showtime. Moody Center is at 2001 Robert Dedman Drive on the UT campus. Parking nearby is limited, so rideshare or walking from downtown is often easiest. With two long sets, plan for a late Saturday night.
