SEE MORE IN:

When a record store gets so big it takes over the building next door, you’re not shopping anymore. You’re in the music business with someone.

Josey Records Dallas opened on LBJ Freeway in Farmers Branch — one of those strip-mall addresses that doesn’t look like anything from the outside. But walk in and the scale hits you like a downbeat. The store covers 15,500 square feet of floor space. That makes it the largest record store in Texas and one of the five largest in the country. But size alone doesn’t explain why Josey Records became a destination. The layout does that. A sprawling floor of new and used vinyl, CDs, cassettes, DVDs, and video games fills the room. A live performance stage and a working DJ booth anchor it all.

More Than a Record Store

The in-store performance series runs year-round. National and local acts set up in a room that holds a real crowd, not a corner-of-the-store audience. When Josey expanded by taking over the adjacent space, they didn’t just add square footage. That decision turned a very good record store into a genuine music venue. The inventory covers every genre with serious depth — country, hip-hop, jazz, classical, rock, and soul. The crates run long, and the staff can walk you through them. Josey Records also carries vinyl accessories, turntables, and music memorabilia throughout the shop.

For a DFW record store experience in the opposite direction — intimate, historic, and built on sixty-seven years of community — Fort Worth’s Record Town has been making that argument since 1957. But Josey Records made the case that bigger could also mean better. In a city that takes its music seriously, North Texas is still listening.
