Mountain Grass Unit and the Kessler Theater wrap up a busy September with a night of high-energy modern bluegrass. The Birmingham-born band built its following through relentless touring, selling out more than thirty shows in a single year before winning the IBMA’s Momentum Band of the Year award. Because the band blends traditional bluegrass with jazz, funk, and even metal influences, their live sets rarely sit still.
Mandolinist Drury Anderson and guitarist Luke Black met as kids taking lessons together, and that long history shows up in the band’s tight, instinctive interplay. Since their upcoming album arrives via Dualtone Records, produced by six-time Grammy winner Vance Powell, expect the band’s studio ambitions to show up on stage too. As a result, this is a rare chance to catch a fast-rising bluegrass act in a room this small.
About the Kessler Theater
The Kessler Theater reopened in 2010 after a restoration of its original 1942 Art Deco design in Dallas’s Oak Cliff neighborhood.
