Green was born in Flint, Texas, and spent his early years there before his family moved to College Station when he was 12. He picked up guitar at his church, graduated from A&M Consolidated High School, and headed to Texas Tech University in Lubbock, where he recorded his 2008 debut album, Dangerous Man. His breakthrough came with 2015’s Ringling Road, still considered one of the defining modern Texas country records.

In 2019, Green co-founded The Panhandlers, a Texas country supergroup with Josh Abbott, Cleto Cordero of Flatland Cavalry, and John Baumann, built as a tribute to the Flatlanders and the West Texas songwriting tradition they represent.
