McCoy was born Hubert Neal McGaughey Jr. in Jacksonville, Texas, and still calls East Texas home today, living in nearby Longview. He got his start opening shows for country legend Charley Pride before breaking through on his own in the early 1990s with a run of hits including the No. 1 singles “No Doubt About It” and “Wink,” songs built around the same high-energy showmanship that’s defined his live performances ever since.

In 2004, McCoy launched his own label, 903 Music, named for the East Texas area code, and kept charting hits on his own terms, including “Billy’s Got His Beer Goggles On.” Decades into his career, he’s still known as one of the hardest-working, most fan-friendly acts in country music, regularly playing well over 100 shows a year across the country.
