The SteelDrivers Kessler Theater show lands on Friday, October 9, as the Nashville bluegrass band celebrates its 20th anniversary with a stop in Oak Cliff. Formed in 2005, the group built its reputation on what critics call “bluegrass soul,” braiding traditional bluegrass roots with country, blues, and soul influences into a genuinely unapologetic hybrid sound. Because of that range, The SteelDrivers have become one of the biggest names in progressive bluegrass.
The current lineup features fiddler Tammy Rogers, bassist Mike Fleming, guitarist and vocalist Matt Dame, mandolinist Brent Truitt, and banjoist Richard Bailey, though the band’s alumni list also includes a young Chris Stapleton, who sang lead during their early rise. The SteelDrivers have earned five Grammy nominations, including a win for The Muscle Shoals Recordings in 2015, and their new album Outrun marks two decades together. As a result, this tour brings a genuinely road-tested band to the Kessler stage.
About the Kessler Theater
The Kessler Theater has anchored the Oak Cliff neighborhood since opening in 1942, and the Art Deco building was once owned by singing cowboy Gene Autry. Since its restoration and reopening as a live music venue, the Kessler Theater has built a reputation for pristine acoustics and an intimate room that puts fans close to the stage. As a result, touring artists across genres consistently rank it among their favorite stops in Texas.
