Sue Foley Kessler Theater Blues Show
Sue Foley and the Kessler Theater bring Texas blues to Oak Cliff on Friday, November 13. Foley was born in Ottawa, Canada, but she moved to Austin in her early twenties to chase the blues. There, she signed with the legendary Antone’s Records, the same label that helped launch many great Texas guitarists.
Her 1992 debut, Young Girl Blues, earned wide praise and established her as a fierce guitar player. Since then, she has released a long string of acclaimed albums. In 2024, she released One Guitar Woman, a nylon-string tribute to female guitar pioneers such as Memphis Minnie and Sister Rosetta Tharpe. As a result, she earned her first Grammy nomination, for Best Traditional Blues Album. In addition, her signature pink paisley Telecaster has become an icon in its own right.
About the Kessler Theater
The Kessler Theater first opened in Oak Cliff in the early 1940s, and singing cowboy Gene Autry was once among its owners. After decades of decline, the Art Deco building was restored and reopened as a live music venue in 2010. Since then, it has become one of the most respected listening rooms in North Texas. In addition, its intimate layout means nearly every seat feels close to the stage.
