The band broke through nationally with 1993’s “The Full-Custom Gospel Sounds of Reverend Horton Heat” and 1996’s “It’s Martini Time,” building a reputation on relentless touring and a live show built around Heath’s blazing guitar work and the band’s famously tight, breakneck rhythm section. Reverend Horton Heat has shared stages and toured with acts as varied as Motorhead, Bad Religion, and Southern Culture on the Skids, and its songs have appeared in film and television for decades, helping keep psychobilly in the wider rock conversation.
Still fronted by Heath after more than 35 years, the band’s live sets remain a marathon of rapid-fire riffing, stand-up-bass theatrics, and barely-contained energy that has earned it a reputation as one of the hardest-touring acts to come out of Texas. The Heights Theater, a restored 1920s movie house in Houston’s Heights neighborhood, offers an intimate room for a band whose live shows are usually built for much larger, rowdier venues.
