The Aztec Theatre is one of San Antonio’s most striking rooms, a restored 1926 movie palace built in an elaborate Mayan Revival style with towering murals and ornamental detail throughout the auditorium. Gary Clark Jr. has won four Grammy Awards from six career nominations, including three in a single night in 2020 for his album This Land, and he’s shared stages and studios with the Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, and Childish Gambino, among others. His rise traces back to the same Antone’s Nightclub stage in Austin where Stevie Ray Vaughan built his reputation a generation earlier.
