SUMMARY:Dallas: James McMurtry with BettySoo at Granada Theater
DESCRIPTION:Master storyteller James McMurtry plays the Granada Theater in Dallas on Friday\, Nov. 13\, 2026\, with support from fellow Austin songwriter BettySoo. Tickets start at $150\, and the show is close to selling out. \nBorn in Fort Worth and raised largely outside Texas\, McMurtry is the son of novelist Larry McMurtry\, author of “Lonesome Dove” and “The Last Picture Show.” He grew up around books and writers\, and that literary instinct shaped him into one of American music’s sharpest narrative songwriters. His break came in 1987\, when he was a finalist at the Kerrville Folk Festival’s songwriting competition; his father later passed a tape of James’s songs to musician John Mellencamp\, who was impressed enough to produce his 1989 debut\, “Too Long in the Wasteland.” \nBuy Tickets \nJames McMurtry and the Texas Songwriter Scene\nMcMurtry’s detailed\, cinematic songs\, including the sprawling family-reunion epic “Choctaw Bingo\,” have made him a favorite among the same audience that fills rooms for the kind of literate Texas songwriting championed by artists like Guy Clark. Opener BettySoo\, a Korean American singer-songwriter raised in Spring\, Texas\, cut her teeth at Austin’s Cactus Cafe before releasing acclaimed records like 2009’s “Heat Sin Water Sin\,” produced by Gurf Morlix\, and has built her own reputation as a sharp\, soulful writer in that same tradition. \nGet your tickets on StubHub \nMcMurtry’s live shows are known for their intensity and detail\, songs that unfold like short stories and a band that plays them with a rock edge. SUMMARY:Dallas: John Violinist at The Kessler Theater
DESCRIPTION:John Violinist Kessler Theater Concert\nJohn Violinist and the Kessler Theater present an evening of soulful strings on Saturday\, November 14\, in Oak Cliff. Born John Randolph in New Britain\, Connecticut\, he picked up the violin at age five. His mother\, a pianist and piano teacher\, introduced him to music. As a result\, he grew up with a deep love for melody and performance. \nBefore music became his full-time career\, he studied psychology at Central Connecticut State University and worked for the state. However\, everything changed when his violin cover of the Alicia Keys song “Unthinkable” went viral on TikTok. Since then\, he has been featured on VH1\, BET and MTV. In addition\, he was chosen for TikTok’s first 100 Black Creatives program. His debut album\, RISE\, blends R&B\, soul and modern violin into a smooth\, uplifting sound. \nAbout the Kessler Theater\nFew Dallas venues carry as much history as the Kessler Theater on West Davis Street. The Art Deco movie house opened in the early 1940s\, and Gene Autry was once a part owner. Because of a careful restoration\, it reopened as a concert hall in 2010. As a result\, touring artists now praise its warm sound and attentive crowds. \nShow Details & Tickets\nJohn Violinist takes the stage at The Kessler Theater\, 1230 W Davis St in Dallas\, on Saturday\, November 14\, 2026\, at 8:00 PM. Because his shows mix covers and originals\, the John Violinist Kessler Theater set should appeal to R&B fans of every age. \nFor the best experience\, arrive a little early and grab a drink in the lobby before the lights go down. Because the theater is only a short drive from downtown Dallas\, it is easy to pair the show with dinner in nearby Bishop Arts. Overall\, it makes for a relaxed night out. \nGet John Violinist tickets on TicketNetwork \nBuy Tickets \nWant to make a season of it? Songwriters Gordy Quist and Ed Jurdi trade lead vocals and guitar duties\, layering rock energy over soulful\, harmony-driven songwriting that has earned comparisons to The Band and Little Feat. The group has released a string of independently produced albums and built a devoted national following through relentless live shows and a busy touring schedule that returns them to Texas year after year. \nBuy Tickets \nThe Longhorn Ballroom is one of Dallas’s most storied music venues\, a dance hall with roots stretching back to the honky-tonk era whose recent renovation has made it a magnet for touring roots and rock acts. Pairing the Band of Heathens with surf-soul artist Donavon Frankenreiter for this Rolling Together Revue makes for a night that spans coastal groove and Texas-bred rock and roll under one roof. \nGet your tickets on StubHub \nOver nearly two decades\, the Band of Heathens has built a catalog that draws equally on rootsy songcraft and rock and roll grit\, growing from local Austin club dates into headlining tours across the country and international festival stops. The band’s current run through Texas also includes stops at Fort Worth’s Dickies Arena; see the Red Clay Strays at Dickies Arena listing for another can’t-miss Texas show this fall. \nDoors typically open two to three hours before the show’s start. The Longhorn Ballroom sits in the Cedars neighborhood just south of downtown Dallas\, with dedicated parking available on-site.

SUMMARY:Dallas: Outlander in Concert at Majestic Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Outlander in Concert comes to the Majestic Theatre in Dallas on Wednesday\, Nov. 25\, 2026\, at 7:30 PM\, with tickets starting at $80. The symphonic show pairs a live orchestra performing the series’ score with the show’s most memorable moments projected on a cinema-sized screen. \n“Outlander\,” based on Diana Gabaldon’s bestselling novels\, follows Claire Randall\, a World War II nurse who is swept back to 18th-century Scotland and falls for Highland warrior Jamie Fraser. The Starz series ran from 2014 through its eighth and final season and built one of television’s most devoted fan bases. Much of its identity comes from the score by Emmy-winning composer Bear McCreary\, which leans on Scottish folk melodies\, bagpipes\, fiddle and choir. \nBuy Tickets \nMcCreary\, also known for scoring “Battlestar Galactica\,” “The Walking Dead” and “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power\,” adapted Robert Louis Stevenson’s poem into the series’ “Skye Boat Song” theme. In concert\, that theme and the score’s sweeping romantic and battle cues come to life with full orchestra while scenes from the show play above the stage. \nGet your Outlander in Concert tickets on TicketNetwork \nThe tour is visiting several Texas theaters this season. Other Texas dates include Sugar Land on Nov. 29\, Austin on Nov. 28 and San Antonio on Dec. 1. The Majestic Theatre opened in 1921 on Elm Street as a vaudeville and movie palace and is the last survivor of downtown Dallas’s old Theatre Row\, which makes its ornate interior a fitting setting for a period drama. The Majestic Theatre is at 1925 Elm Street in downtown Dallas\, with paid parking in nearby garages and the DART St. Paul Station a short walk away.
