Sound Systems, Ltd. opened on Paramount Blvd in 1977 to bring quality audio equipment to the Texas Panhandle. For decades, that was the mission. Then Amarillo’s last dedicated record store closed. The gap was obvious. Sound Systems filled it.

Turntables and Records Under the Same Roof

The purchasing staff brings more than thirty years of record store experience. New releases sit alongside deep catalog vinyl.

The store sits just off I-40 — Route 66 in its earlier life — at the geographic heart of the Texas Panhandle. Amarillo was always the crossroads: east-west on Route 66, north-south on the old cattle trails. Sound Systems carries that same kind of useful permanence. You can buy a turntable and the records to play on it without leaving the building. For the underground vinyl shop and venue on SW 6th Avenue, High Fidelity Records is the city’s other record destination.
