Dallas: The Rustic

The Rustic opened in Uptown Dallas in 2013, co-founded by Texas Country singer-songwriter Pat Green alongside FreeRange Concepts, the Dallas hospitality group behind Mutts Canine Cantina and Bowl & Barrel. According to FreeRange’s own account, the idea traced back to a bachelor-party trip to a ranch in Glen Rose, where nights spent around a fire pit with food and live music sparked the concept for a bar built entirely around that feeling.

A Backyard Built for Bands

Inside, The Rustic leans into its name with reclaimed wood walls, steel barrel light fixtures, and an American flag made from empty beer cans, alongside roughly 40 Texas beers on tap. But the real draw is out back: a “backyard biergarten” concert space with a large wooden stage, illuminated signage, and stacked PA towers, where live music plays free most nights of the week. The venue mixes in around 30 bigger, ticketed national-act shows a year with a steady stream of local and regional acts on the house.

From One Dallas Bar to a Regional Chain

What started as a single Uptown location has since expanded into a small regional footprint, with additional Rustic locations opened in Houston and a further location announced for Grandscape in The Colony. The Dallas original remains the flagship, and its combination of restaurant, bar, and outdoor stage has made it as much a food-and-drink destination as a music venue.

The Rustic sits a short drive from the Granada Theater on Greenville Avenue, giving Uptown and Lower Greenville their own back-to-back stretch of Dallas nightlife. Because most nights are free to walk in, The Rustic tends to fill up fast on weekends — arriving early for a table near the stage is worth it.
