The Breakfast Klub opened in Midtown Houston in 2001 and built its reputation the old-fashioned way — one plate of Wings & Waffles at a time. Chef Marcus Davis created a menu that took Southern breakfast traditions seriously, adding his own touches until the restaurant became something Houston claimed as entirely its own. The line forms early. It always has.
Beyoncé named The Breakfast Klub one of her favorite Houston restaurants in an interview with Essence magazine. She has visited multiple times over the years, returning whenever she comes home. That kind of loyalty means something in Houston, where the Queen’s endorsement carries real weight and the Breakfast Klub earned it without trying.
Wings, Waffles, and a Waiting Line
The signature dishes — Wings & Waffles and Katfish & Grits — have drawn national attention from food critics and travel writers who follow Houston’s dining scene. The restaurant has been named one of the best breakfast spots in the country by multiple publications. None of that changed the atmosphere inside: warm, communal, unhurried, and unmistakably Houston.
The Breakfast Klub sits in Midtown, a neighborhood that connects Houston’s downtown arts district to the historically Black neighborhoods to the south. For decades it has served as a gathering place for Houston’s Black community — politicians, artists, musicians, and neighbors sharing tables and coffee in the same room. That is the kind of establishment Beyoncé keeps returning to. Not just for the food, but for what it represents about the city that made her.
Houston has world-class dining in every direction. The Breakfast Klub is where Beyoncé goes for breakfast.
