SEE MORE IN:
Spencer Gaydon has been buying records since junior high. He’s spent his whole life in Lubbock. He finally opened Hub City Records Lubbock in November 2024.
The store sits beside a neighborhood art co-op on Boston Avenue. The focus is collector-minded: punk, metal, and experimental titles that don’t turn up on other shelves. New releases sit alongside carefully curated used vinyl. A section of dollar bins invites curious newcomers. You can also find vinyl by Lubbock’s own local artists. Inside, Spencer’s wife runs a jewelry and perfume boutique. Together, they’ve built a small ecosystem of independent businesses under one roof.
The Hub City Way
Hub City is what Lubbock people call their city. It’s the regional hub for West Texas — where everything within 150 miles flows in and out. Hub City Records reflects that spirit. Both owners hold day jobs. Gaydon works at a lumber yard. His business partner works at a nursing home. But on Wednesday nights and weekends, the store comes alive with regulars, serious collectors, and first-timers. Hub City Records also sends customers Ralph’s way. Ralph’s Records at 82nd Street has been the city’s anchor record store since 1980. Together, they’re building what Lubbock’s record culture has always deserved.
Spencer Gaydon has been collecting for years. Now Lubbock can do it with him.
