Baldemar Huerta — known to the world as Freddy Fender — was born in San Benito in 1937 and went on to win a Grammy and place a string of hits on both the country and pop charts, including “Before the Next Teardrop Falls” and “Wasted Days and Wasted Nights.” The Freddy Fender Museum preserves his personal belongings, awards, and career memorabilia in the same Rio Grande Valley town where he grew up. It shares a building with the San Benito History Museum and the Texas Conjunto Music Hall of Fame & Museum, making this a three-museum stop in one location.
