SEE MORE IN:

Brothers Dell and Charlie Wunsche were scions of one of Spring’s earliest German families who settled in the area in the mid‑1800s. They founded this Texas historic landmark in 1902 as a saloon and hotel catering to railroad workers.

The building is officially recognized as Spring’s oldest commercial building and it still stands on its original site. It was designated a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1984. A brothel operated upstairs alongside its saloon and hotel services before Prohibition shut down the booze-and‐bed combo.

It later reopened as the Spring Café and later rebranded “Wunsche Bros.” in the 1980s to flaunt its historic roots. As a cultural hub, Wunsche Bros. became an early stage for Texas legends like Lyle Lovett and Clint Black.
