Kacey Musgraves has cut three shows from her Middle of Nowhere Tour. But the Golden, Texas, native isn’t backing off the road. The scrapped dates hit Chicago’s United Center on August 20 and Boston’s TD Garden on August 29. Brooklyn’s Barclays Center loses its September 2 show too. The tour had added all three as second dates after early tickets sold fast. Now they’re gone, and so far, nobody on Kacey Musgraves’ team has explained why.
TMZ broke the news first. The outlet reported the change comes down to scheduling, not health. The tour still opens August 21 in Chicago, and that date happens to be Musgraves’ birthday. She’ll also play back-to-back nights at Madison Square Garden, before stops in Nashville and Los Angeles. The run closes with two shows at Seattle’s Climate Pledge Arena in October.
Saving Country Music’s Kyle Coroneos dug into the ticket math and found something that looks more like ambition than trouble. He pulled up the seating charts for the surviving Chicago and Boston shows. Both look close to sold out, even weeks out. So instead of a red flag, Coroneos saw something else entirely. He called it a case of a team simply “biting off more than they could chew.”
Kacey Musgraves: Bigger Rooms, Tighter Math
That reading fits an artist who has never leaned on radio play to fill a room this size. Kacey Musgraves broke through with 2013’s Same Trailer Different Park, then Golden Hour turned her into a headliner. Her new album, Middle of Nowhere, even includes a duet with Willie Nelson called “Uncertain, TX.” Adding a third arena date in the same city is a bet. It doesn’t always pay off, even for an artist this hot. It’s a little like a rancher planting one field past what the rain can carry. The ambition is sound, but the math still has to catch up.
Fans holding tickets to the three canceled shows get no rebooking date, and that part stings. Still, nothing here points to Kacey Musgraves stepping back. If anything, selling out arenas without a radio hit behind her says she’s arrived somewhere new.

Austin’s Chasen Wayne just announced his next concept album, The Diamond Saloon. Out August 28, the record follows two brothers running a fictional bar in Van Horn, Texas. One is restless, one is resigned. Chasen Wayne and his band, the Honky Tonk Machine, recorded the album at Sweetheart Studios in Elgin, Texas. Five Texas road warriors called the Wilder Blue just announced their fifth album, fittingly named Cinco. The band recorded it at Sonic Ranch in Tornillo, Texas, and built it around their signature five-part harmonies. Country veteran Tracy Byrd joins them on the single “Texas Women.” “We figured it out together, as friends, the five of us,” singer Zane Williams said of the sessions. Details at Saving Country Music
