Formed in Los Angeles in 1981, Mötley Crüe became one of glam metal’s defining acts, mixing theatrical stage shows with hits like “Kickstart My Heart,” “Girls, Girls, Girls,” and “Dr. Feelgood” across a run of multi-platinum albums. The band’s turbulent history — chronicled in the bestselling memoir and Netflix film “The Dirt” — became almost as famous as the music itself, but decades later Mötley Crüe remains one of hard rock’s most reliable arena and amphitheater draws, known for elaborate pyrotechnics and a rotating drum riser that’s become a signature of Tommy Lee’s live performances.

Dos Equis Pavilion at Fair Park has hosted Dallas’s biggest outdoor summer concerts since it opened in 1988 as the Coca-Cola Starplex Amphitheatre, changing sponsor names half a dozen times since. The 20,000-capacity amphitheater splits between a partially covered, 7,500-seat pavilion section and a sprawling 12,500-person general-admission lawn, and hosted Lollapalooza, Ozzfest, Lilith Fair, and the Vans Warped Tour in various years throughout the 1990s and 2000s. Opener Tesla, the Sacramento hard-rock band behind “Love Song” and “Signs,” has toured alongside Mötley Crüe before and brings its own catalog of late-’80s hard rock hits to open the night.

Lawn tickets are typically the cheapest way in — bring a blanket or low chair, as outside seating isn’t provided on the grass. Doors typically open around 5:30 PM ahead of a 6:30 PM start. Given the popularity of this tour, arriving with plenty of time to find parking and get settled before the opening act is a good idea.
