Bob Dylan will release his complete May 19, 1976, Fort Worth concert as a three-LP set on Nov. 6. The show anchors a massive new box from the second leg of the Rolling Thunder Revue. And Dylan never issued 18 of its 22 tracks until now.
Fifty years ago, Dylan rolled into the Tarrant County Convention Center Arena with a traveling circus of a band. Rob Stoner played bass, and Scarlet Rivera sawed away on violin. Meanwhile, Mick Ronson, Steven Soles and David Mansfield handled guitars, while Howie Wyeth kept time. Then Joni Mitchell turned up that night, too. Now the whole run is coming back to life. Dylan’s 39-disc box captures all 27 dates of that mythic 1976 tour. Moreover, it holds more than 370 unheard tracks, plus liner notes by Mikal Gilmore.

Texas ran all through that tour. Fort Worth-raised T Bone Burnett played piano, guitar and sang at all 27 shows. Also, Willie Nelson joined Dylan onstage in Houston. Meanwhile, Kinky Friedman popped up at various stops. Burnett still talks about the run like a man who saw the future. “The Rolling Thunder Revue was the first national punk rock tour,” he said in a statement. “He is good at walking through doors that no one else even sees,” Burnett added.
The timing carries a bittersweet edge, though, because crews are tearing down the very arena where Dylan played. So the vinyl arrives like a family photo snapped just as the bulldozers pull up. And fans can already stream a newly remixed “Going, Going, Gone” from the show. Fort Worth may lose the building, but it keeps the night forever.
