Kacey Musgraves will release Middle of Nowhere Vol. 2: Tex Mex Tapes on January 15, 2027. Also, two new songs dropped Thursday night. The sixteen-track sequel arrives eight months after May’s Middle of Nowhere. It leans hard into the sound of the border.
Golden, Texas, native Kacey Musgraves just wrote her home state a love letter in two languages. Also, the record lands on the Lost Highway label, just like its predecessor. Think of it as a second helping at the family barbecue. Then the best dishes finally come out of the cooler.
The singles set the tone. “Weekend In Texas” tells you where she is. Meanwhile, her take on the norteño classic “Mi Tesoro” shows where she’s headed. But four tracks run entirely in Spanish. Also, Mariachi Oro De América joins her on “Tú Solo Tú,” which she recorded live in Mexico City.
Texas Meets Mexico on One Record
Next, Musgraves brings back “Uncertain, TX” in Spanish, this time with Grupo Intocable. We covered that duet earlier this month, but now it has a home. Meanwhile, she opens with “Pretty Horses” and closes with “Before The Next Teardrop Falls.” In between, she revisits “All My Exes (Kacey’s Version)” and sings “Denim On Denim” and “(Hey Baby) Qué Pasó?”
The album’s store page says it explores the “shared music, culture and tradition of Texas and Mexico.” That mission fits, because Texas has always lived on both sides of the river. Now Kacey says so out loud, and she sings it beautifully. Details at Northeast Times
