October 17 @ 7:30 pm - 10:30 pm
$30
Chelsea Wolfe brings her gothic folk-meets-doom sound to Emo’s on Saturday, October 17, touring behind her new album THE DARK with support from Jonathan Hultén. Doors are at 7:30 PM, with tickets starting around $30.
Wolfe emerged from California’s Central Coast in the late 2000s, building a sound that fuses hushed acoustic folk with drone, doom metal, and industrial textures — a combination that has made her a favorite crossover act for metal and indie audiences alike. Albums like Pain Is Beauty (2013) and Abyss (2015) established her as one of the most distinctive voices in heavy music, pairing a soprano that can turn from whisper-quiet to shattering with lyrics steeped in nightmare logic, grief, and the natural world. She’s since collaborated with members of bands like Russian Circles and toured alongside acts ranging from Queens of the Stone Age to Deafheaven.
Emo’s has long been Austin’s home for music that doesn’t fit neatly into one genre box, and a Chelsea Wolfe show is as good a fit for that mission as any — equal parts metal show, folk recital, and performance art piece. The Red River venue’s big main room and heavy-duty sound system give her wall-of-sound arrangements room to breathe, which is part of why touring artists in her lane keep coming back.

Wolfe’s 2019 album Birth of Violence stripped her sound back toward its acoustic roots, while THE DARK finds her pushing further into the heavier, more electronic textures that have defined her live shows in recent years. For another stop on Austin’s heavier-music circuit, Stubb’s Bar-B-Q is a short drive away and regularly books acts in a similar sonic orbit.
Doors open at 7:30 PM for this all-ages show. Red River parking can be tight on weekend nights, so plan to arrive early or use one of the nearby garages.
