Grammy-winning jazz-funk collective Snarky Puppy brings its genre-defying live show to the Granada Theater in Dallas on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2026. Tickets start at $81.

Snarky Puppy was born just up the road in Denton, when bassist and bandleader Michael League gathered nine fellow students from the University of North Texas’s renowned Jazz Studies program for weekly rehearsals in his basement. The band played its first gig in the basement of a Denton pizza parlor in 2004, and what started as a college side project grew into one of the most acclaimed instrumental acts of its generation, blending jazz, funk, R&B, and world music into a sound built for both headphones and arenas.

Snarky Puppy: A Denton Band Gone Global

The group’s North Texas roots run deep, tracing back to the same university jazz program that has sent players to stages like the one at the University of North Texas, where fellow alum Norah Jones once studied. Snarky Puppy has since gone on to win five Grammy Awards, including Best R&B Performance for “Something” featuring Lalah Hathaway in 2014, and Best Contemporary Instrumental Album in 2016, 2017, 2021, and 2023.

The band’s rotating cast of world-class musicians and its “Family Dinner” live-recording concept have made its shows into communal events as much as concerts, with members trading solos and building grooves that can stretch a single tune well past ten minutes. That improvisational, big-band energy translates especially well to a room like the Granada, where the crowd is close enough to catch every cue between players.

Doors open at 7 p.m. for the 8 p.m. show. The Granada Theater sits at 3524 Greenville Ave. in Lower Greenville, one of Dallas’s most walkable live-music strips, with plenty of bars and restaurants nearby for dinner before the show.
