Randy Rogers Band celebrates 25 years with Songbook, a collaborative album full of Texas friends. Most bands mark a quarter century with a greatest-hits package. This one marks it with a guest list.
Picture a long supper table in a Hill Country dance hall, every chair taken by a friend. That is the feel of Songbook, which the band announced Tuesday. The 15 songs reimagine career favorites like “Kiss Me in the Dark,” “Down & Out,” and “Interstate.” The first single, “Tommy Jackson,” features Parker McCollum.
The guests keep coming from there. Miranda Lambert, Dierks Bentley, Gary Allan, and Sunny Sweeney all sing on the record. So do Cody Jinks, Turnpike Troubadours, Flatland Cavalry, Pat Green, Wade Bowen, Koe Wetzel, Kaitlin Butts, and Maggie Antone.
Twenty-Five Years, One Big Table
The band’s story starts in San Marcos, where Cheatham Street Warehouse has launched young Texas songwriters for decades. Since then, the group has spent two and a half decades of Texas country on the road and in the studio. Now the friends they made along the way are paying them back.
Rogers sounds humbled by the turnout. “This wasn’t just about our band. It was about all of us,” he said. Fans can pre-save the album now. Twenty-five years in, the best song on the table is the room itself.
