When Miranda Lambert wants to say happy birthday, she doesn’t just bake a cake — she rewrites Texas.
The Lindale-born singer marked husband Brendan McLoughlin’s 35th birthday on October 14 by sharing photos and videos on Instagram, including a clip of her singing reworked lyrics to Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas,” which Lambert co-wrote.
It’s a small moment that says a lot about where Lambert is right now. “Choosin’ Texas” has spent months at the top of Texas and national country charts — a collaboration that helped introduce Alabama native Ella Langley to Texas audiences and reminded everyone why Lambert, the newly named 2025 Texas State Musician, is still one of the state’s most important songwriters.
Billboard’s country feed picked up the performance as well, noting Lambert performed a personalized version with altered lyrics referencing him being in Las Vegas — a playful nod to his location during the celebration.
Lambert is fresh off her induction into the Texas Songwriters Hall of Fame Class of 2026 alongside George Strait, and soon to be honored with a Velvet Rodeo wardrobe exhibit at the National Cowgirl Museum in Fort Worth.
The clip is intimate — no arena production, just Lambert singing to camera — which is why it’s become popular on Facebook and Instagram. Fans are commenting with birthday wishes and asking for the full reworked lyric.
