Kacey Musgraves Answers Her Critics From a Los Angeles Stage

Texas Music News — October 21, 2026

Kacey Musgraves answered her critics Monday: “We’ve got to find a way to love each other and be neighbours.” The Golden, Texas, native spoke in Los Angeles on October 19, eight days after her Dallas show lit the fuse.

The trouble started October 11 at the Dallas stop of her tour. Musgraves made remarks about Christopher Columbus from the stage, and she also criticized Kristi Noem. Critics pounced, and the noise grew all week.

Then came Los Angeles. Musgraves did not retreat, but she softened her tone. She even acknowledged dissent in the room. “There could be a couple people in here tonight that don’t agree with me,” she said.

Meanwhile, fellow country singer Wynonna Judd weighed in. She argued that fans don’t come to concerts for politics. “Dolly wouldn’t do that,” Judd said.

A concert hall works like a county fair. Everybody shows up for the same funnel cake, yet nobody agrees on anything else. This Grammy-winning songwriter learned that lesson young, because she grew up near Kacey Musgraves’ Golden childhood home. Now she carries Middle of Nowhere across the country and answers for every word. In Texas, you can fuss with your neighbor and still bring a casserole to the funeral.
