Miranda Lambert Finally Addresses 2010 Punch Rumor

For 16 years, it’s been one of those late-night country music stories that never quite died: Did Miranda Lambert really punch Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger back in 2010?

This week, she finally addressed it directly.

In a new interview clip circulating this week, Lambert speaks on the record about the long-running rumor for the first time. The story centers on the alleged backstage run-in at an awards show after-party that became meme-fodder on country forums, Reddit threads, and TikTok compilations.

The original story — never verified at the time — claimed Lambert took exception to a comment Kroeger made about country music and responded physically. Kroeger’s band has joked about it in interviews over the years, but Lambert herself had never commented, letting the folklore build.

Her new comments frame it as a moment blown out of proportion by early-2010s gossip blogs, and an example of how a Texas-born female headliner’s every move in Nashville gets turned into “she’s difficult” folklore. It lands differently now: Lambert is in the middle of her Crisco press run, her 11th straight Top 10 country album, and fresh off her induction into the Texas Songwriters Hall of Fame Class of 2026 alongside George Strait.

So what did happen all those years ago? Lambert confirmed she did confront Kroeger during a night out — but did not physically strike him.

“I threw moonshine on his face. I did do that,” Lambert said.
