Long before the Nashville Star TV show, Miranda Lambert was doing her homework in Dallas. In a Garden & Gun magazine “Texas Truth” interview she later re-shared with her own fans, Lambert traced her education straight back to the Texas club circuit: “The music scene in Texas was such a blessing because I was always going to shows in Dallas and Austin — like Willie and Jack Ingram and Wade Bowen shows — to absorb everything I could.”
As a teenager from nearby Lindale and Longview, Dallas was close enough to reach for a night out and far enough to feel like the big leagues.
That apprenticeship — watching Texas singer-songwriters work a room rather than studying a chart formula — shows up all over Lambert’s catalog, and she’s returned to it explicitly on records like Postcards From Texas (2024) and The Marfa Tapes, the stripped-down 2021 collaboration with two of the very songwriters she grew up watching, Jack Ingram and Jon Randall.
Dallas was where the absorbing started.
