Blue Jay Brings a Roots-Rock Revue to the Kessler Theater
Blue Jay and the Kessler Theater team up this July for a night built around raw, live roots music. Jay “Blue Jay” Jourden created the revue after meeting Claudette King, daughter of B.B. King, at the Josie Music Awards in Nashville. As a result, the two hit it off fast and built a touring show around that connection.
Claudette King has toured and recorded alongside Grammy-winning guitarist Tyron Vaughan, son of Jimmie Vaughan and nephew of Stevie Ray Vaughan. Because the revue rotates a deep bench of roots and blues talent, no two stops sound quite the same. Jourden, a Recording Academy voting member, has spent decades pushing a “Better World Through Music” mission, and that mission shows up in the band’s loose, generous stage energy.
About the Kessler Theater
The Kessler Theater opened in 1942 as an Art Deco movie house in Oak Cliff. A 2010 restoration turned it into one of Dallas’s most trusted live music rooms. Since then, it has hosted everyone from touring legends to rising local acts.
