Dallas: Built to Spill at The Echo Lounge and Music Hall

Indie-rock veterans Built to Spill play The Echo Lounge and Music Hall in the Dallas Design District on Wednesday, September 23, with tickets starting at $20.

Formed in Boise, Idaho, in 1992 and led throughout by songwriter and guitarist Doug Martsch, Built to Spill helped define 1990s indie rock with albums like “Perfect from Now On” and “Keep It Like a Secret,” building a reputation on sprawling, multi-guitar-driven songs that stretched pop hooks into extended jams. More than three decades in, the band remains a touring fixture on the strength of Martsch’s guitar work and a catalog that’s aged into indie-rock canon status.

The Echo Lounge and Music Hall opened in 2022 inside a repurposed warehouse in the Dallas Design District, an adaptive-reuse project by architecture firm RIOS that kept the building’s industrial character while adding upscale finishes. Two connected rooms — the intimate Echo Lounge and the larger, multi-tiered Music Hall — hold up to 1,000 guests combined, with a custom tile mural, a VIP lounge, and a spacious outdoor patio. This is the second of two DFW dates on the current run — the band also played Fort Worth’s Tannahill’s Tavern the night before, giving North Texas fans a rare chance to catch the band twice in one week.
