San Antonio: Lyle Lovett and his Small Large Band at Majestic Theatre

Lyle Lovett and his Small Large Band play the Majestic Theatre in San Antonio on Friday, Nov. 20, 2026, at 8:00 PM, with tickets starting at $131. The Texas singer-songwriter is on a fall run of theater dates, and the San Antonio show comes the night before he plays Austin’s ACL Live.
Lovett grew up in Klein, north of Houston, on land his family has farmed for generations, and studied journalism at Texas A&M, where he started playing songs in local clubs. His self-titled 1986 debut announced a writer who could move from dry wit to deep heartbreak in a single verse, and albums like “Pontiac,” “Lyle Lovett and His Large Band” and “Joshua Judges Ruth” mixed country, swing, gospel, jazz and blues in a way nobody else was doing.
He has won four Grammy Awards and written songs that have become Texas standards, including “If I Had a Boat,” “She’s No Lady,” “Cowboy Man,” “North Dakota” and “That’s Right (You’re Not From Texas).” He has also acted in films by Robert Altman. The Small Large Band is a trimmed-down version of his famous Large Band, keeping the horns, swing and gospel energy in a more intimate package.

The fall tour has two Texas nights back to back. The next night he plays Austin; see our listing for Lyle Lovett at ACL Live. San Antonio’s Majestic Theatre opened in 1929 and is known for its Spanish Mission-style interior and a ceiling painted like a night sky, a beautiful match for Lovett’s elegant, genre-crossing show. Doors typically open an hour before showtime. The Majestic Theatre is on East Houston Street in downtown San Antonio, a short walk from the River Walk, with paid parking in nearby garages. Arrive early to enjoy the theater.
