The Granada Theater, an 80-year-old Dallas music hall, will close in April after owners sell it to a spa company. Owners Mike Schoder and Julia Garton announced the sale in a Facebook post this week. Their neighboring restaurant, Sundown, closes even sooner, on Nov. 1.
The room began as a 1946 movie house. It became a Lower Greenville landmark once live music took over the stage. Since then, Sierra Ferrell, Arlo Parks and Leon Bridges have all played it on their way up. Picture a hometown dive with a cathedral ceiling: big enough to matter, small enough to feel every note.

Bathhouse, a spa and wellness concept, takes over the building. Schoder and Garton cite rising costs, changing audiences and a wish to enjoy life away from the venue. However, they also wrote that a friend told them, “We’ve got 20 good summers left.” So after 34 years, they chose summers over soundchecks.
Dallas will keep its music, but it loses a stage that gave rising artists their first real room. A spa will soak away the stress, yet only a room like this turns a Friday night into a memory.
