Dallas singer-songwriter Ceci Ceci turns a painful goodbye into her most honest song yet on “La Burbuja.” The track dropped Friday as the lead single from her debut album, also titled La Burbuja, out in October. Ceci Ceci sings in Spanish about a trip back to Nicaragua. That’s where she grew up, before her family settled in San Antonio, then Dallas. She expected comfort. Instead, she found a stranger’s reflection in familiar rooms.
The song’s title translates to “the bubble,” and Ceci Ceci means it two ways at once. It’s the hometown she once knew like the back of her hand, now grown unfamiliar. But it’s also a place she chooses to revisit, like flipping through an old photo album. “I titled it that to reclaim something painful,” she told the Dallas Observer. That kind of reversal — pain repurposed into ownership — runs through everything she writes.
Ceci Ceci Bursts Her Own Bubble
Producer Sir Hope tracked the song in Mexico City, building it around warm acoustic guitars instead of studio polish. The original demo ended with a literal pop, like a balloon bursting. Sir Hope swapped that ending for something gentler. Now Ceci Ceci’s voice simply drifts from the microphone until it disappears. It floats away like a soap bubble catching a breeze. It’s a small choice, but it changes everything. A burst is violent and final. A drift is chosen.
Ceci Ceci first turned heads in North Texas’s Latin alternative scene. She blends son cubano, reggae and indie-pop into something distinctly her own. Dallas’s Latin scene spans wildly different rooms, from arena-fillers like Grupo Frontera to Ceci Ceci’s more intimate songwriting. She won Best Latin Act at the inaugural Dallas Entertainment Awards in 2023. Now, “La Burbuja” shows an artist done introducing herself. Whether or not she belongs to the bubble anymore, Dallas clearly still claims her as one of its own.

Dr. Marco Cervantes, who grew up in Houston’s Aldine neighborhood, played songs from his EP Tráfico with a full band at Dan Electro’s on Sunday. Producer Principe Q, nephew of Selena and son of A.B. Austin folk singer Kohanna celebrated an upcoming single with a hometown show. The Arizona-born artist, who has called Austin home for about a year, played a free set at Cherrywood Coffeehouse ahead of her new song “Colorado.” It also follows a full-length record inspired by the same state.
